Tips For Designing Effective And Attractive Custom Outdoor Banners For Your Business

Posted on: 16 October 2018

If your business is having a blowout sale or if you simply want to bring in more customers by hanging up a colorful outdoor banner outside of your store's entrance door, then these tips will help you design an effective and attractive custom outdoor banner:

Tip: Use the Fewest Words Necessary to Get Your Message Across

When you hang up a banner outside of your store, potential customers need to be able to read it quickly as they pass by in their cars or on public transportation. For this reason, you should use the fewest words possible and stick to only the words necessary to get the idea across.

For example, if you will be having a clearance sale to open up space for next season's stock, simply put the words "clearance sale" on the banner. There is no reason to explain further using the banner. You can always use smaller signage or explain to customers who ask that the sale is to make room for your future stock. Adding this fact to the banner will just clutter it up and make it harder for passersby to read it.

Tip: Use Large Letters Printed in an Easy-to-Read Font

To ensure everyone can easily read your banner, make sure you use very large letters printed in an easy-to-read font. While you may love the look of Gothic font, this isn't a good option for an outdoor banner because it can be too hard to read as someone is driving by. Instead, stick to simple fonts such as Helvetica or Times New Roman.

Tip: Use Bright Colors so Your Banner Stands Out Even on Stormy Days

When designing your banner, make sure you use bright colors with a lot of contrast between the lettering and the background color. For example, make your text black, white, or red, and use a background that is bright yellow or another color that will stand out against the exterior paint scheme on your building. This strategy ensures the banner will be easy to see even on stormy days or when the sun is low on the horizon.

Tip: Choose a Banner Made of Canvas Over Vinyl for Winter or Summer Use

Finally, if you plan to hang your custom banner outdoors during either the hot months of summer or the cold months of winter, then choose a banner made of canvas over one made of vinyl. Canvas banners will hold up better in inclement weather and will not crack or discolor in the same way that a vinyl banner can.
